MADEIRAS DA AMAZÔNIA QUE APRESENTAM RAIOS LARGOS

This paper studies the macroscopical characteristics of 80 hardwoods from the Amazon region represented by 19 families and 46 genera which show broad rays, following adaptations made by Division of Anatomy and Wood Identification/INPA, based on Technical Standard COPANT (1974). For each species the following data is reported: general characteristics, macroscopic description, uses, common names, and photomacrograph's atlas with 10X magnification in order to help the species' identification, in addition is shown a comparative chart containing the classification of the width of rays studied between the Technical Standard COPANT (1974) and DAIM/INPA (1987), a histogram with frequency of species specific gravity, a list with specific gravity classification, and an alphabetic index by families and other by common names. Also a glossary of technical names utilized in macroscopic descriptions of wood going with a drawing of sections of wood sample is shown.
