Indicators of sustainable of the Piranha Development Reserve, Manacapuru, Amazonas, Brasil

The indicators are qualitative and quantitative information, used to decide processes in all the levels of the society. In this direction the intention of this study is to comparatively evaluate the ways of life of the traditional populations of the studied area from capitals: human, social, natural, physical and financial, and to consider indicators of evaluation and monitoring to protected areas of the Amazon. The empirical base for the work were nine agricultural communities of the Piranha Development Reserve, being three of them from the sustainable use zone and six of them from the damping zone north and south in Manacapuru-AM. The methodology procedure adopted in the inquiry is quantitative. The data were collected, through the action oral stories, participant observations, structuralized and semi-structuralized interviews, informal colloquies and secondary data. The collected data were organized by capitals and later used in the comparison of the indicators and construction of a Local Sustainable Development Index - LSDI. The obtained results have demonstrated a better development of the ways of communitarian life in the communities of the sustainable use zone, with prominence for the financial capital. The LSDI constructed has showed a representative local reality, of ease application, efficient to measure the performance of the integrant indicators of the capitals. In this way, directions are pointed to take decisions in agreement with the principles of the sustainability and recommendations of global Agenda 21.
