The main objective of this work was to present actual information on the situation of the outstanding forest species in the Amazon Region, with the purpose to manage correctly its forest genetic resources. To obtain available data, questionnaires were sent to Research Institutions, Universities, Museums and IBDF`s Agencies (Brazilian Institute for Forest Development) settled in the Region. These questionnaries when filled in and returned gave conditions to analise and establish priority criteria on genetic conservation of endangered forest species. A strategy for "in situ" genetic conservation of this resource was suggested to preserve its genetic diversity.
