Flavonoids of four species of Paepalanthus (P. bifrons, P. hilairei, P. planifolius e P. robustus) were isolated and identified. Three species presentd 6- oxygenated flavonols, a characteristic that is also known in Eriocaulon. However, P. hilairei contains flavones, a character of Leiothrix and Syngonanthus. These preliminary results reveal a chemical heterogeneity of Paepalanthus as compared with other genera of Eriocaulaceae.
