Four species of trees from the cerrado (Platypodium elegans Vog., Genipa americana L., Plathymenia reticulata Benth., Pithecellobium edwallii Hoehne ) were studied in terms of phenology, morphology, germination and productivity with a view to their use for arborization and landscaping. The studies were carried out over a period of three consecutive years in experimental areas belonging to the Institute of Botany, São Paulo, the Biological Reserve and Experimental Station, Moji-Guaçu, and Ilha Solteira, all in São Paulo State, Brazil, Observations show the species flower in January, February and November; they adapt well to soil conditions as varied as those of Moji-Guaçu and Ilha Solteira; Pithecellobium edwallii Hoehne is outstanding in terms of precocity of growth. Partial results recommend these species for use in landscaping.
