EDITORIAL
New guidelines to submit manuscripts
The current issue of the Anais Brasileiros de Dermatologia (Brazilian Annals of Dermatology) introduces readers and potential authors to the new norms for publishing articles in our journal. This issue only features the changes brought to the previous norms and the most relevant aspects, which are highlighted in bold. The publication norms and format fully comply with what the Editorial Board and the Board of Directors of the Brazilian Dermatology Society (SBD) have long strived for, namely a journal of unquestionable scientific quality. As such, the Anais must not only live up to the expectations and needs of national dermatologists and specialists in neighboring areas, but it has also had to achieve international recognition, culminating in the indexing we have long coveted.
We hope these changes will not be taken as factors meant to make the task of getting published harder. Instead, we see the requirements as facilitating and guiding the elaboration of scientific articles according to the methodological rules in vigor that are broadly accepted and recommended by the most renowned scientific periodicals. We seek to publish articles that are written as clearly and objectively as possible, as well as being the most accurate from a methodological point of view. Illustrations must be of high quality and indeed essential to understanding the text, which should be reader-friendly. Last but not least, articles should fulfill their function of divulging the scientific knowledge that has been developed in Dermatology and correlated areas.
A check list will now be included among the publication norms. This should help authors to examine the requirements expected before submitting an article to be assessed for publication. It is vital for these selective requirements to be duly followed. The only articles that will be submitted for pre-assessment to the Medical Editorial Board and sent for blind peer review are those that have been approved following examination by the Technical Editorial Board. A flow-chart has also been included to illustrate and help readers understand the different steps of the process by which articles are evaluated and then accepted for publication.
All of these changes, as well as previously disclosed innovations, are the outcome of decisions made in the wake of broad-ranging discussions held by the Medical and Technical Editorial Boards. They have been deemed relevant for hastening the publication process. We hope they will be recognized by readers and authors alike as an editorial effort made to give even more value to the papers published in the pages of the Anais Brasileiros de Dermatologia.
