EDITORIAL
Publication and expectation
The scientific journal Anais Brasileiros de Dermatologia intends to increasingly become one of the preferred publications to authors and readers both in Brazil and abroad.
The quality of publications has been increasing and this is the first step towards any future intention we might have of standing out in the area.
The greatness of any editorial system stems from the publication of articles that are relevant to the area. Next, there should be the progressive acknowledgement from the scientific environment about the value of the journal, complementing and providing feedback to the system, which means that more and better studies are expected to be submitted for publication. The increase in number of citations, impact factor and important indexation will simply follow.
The present issue has this purpose in mind: not only the aim of current and recent editors, but certainly of Brazilian Society of Dermatology and Brazilian dermatologists overall.
Continuing Medical Education paper addresses autoimmune bullous dermatoses, a chapter displaying priceless and historical teachings by professors and dermatologists from our country provided to world dermatology and medicine in general (page ).
Among investigation papers, it is worth highlighting the publication of a cohort that investigated congenital nevi in a sample of children and adolescents, a topic that is controversially addressed by medical literature (page ). Patient selection criteria and several definitions used by different studies lead to difficulties of analysis and synthesis. The need to expand the follow up of such cohorts is evident, which will help us define potential malignant transformations of nevi.
The comprehensive review paper on scleroderma in childhood, including highly representative illustrations, will certainly support those that study the topic in their daily practice (page ).
Case studies published in this issue are going to encourage readers to think and study further. Among them, one paper discusses the dermatoscopic differences of melanonychia, based on two case studies, which deserve special attention (page ), which also applies to the case report of the rare concomitance in the same patient of contact allergic dermatitis (type IV hypersensitivity) to rubber component (thiuram) and latex contact urticaria (immediate reaction type I) (page ).
In the Dermatopathology section, the published paper has an objective and hands-on clinical approach of the use of ungueal keratin assessment in the investigation of onycopathies, in addition to detailing data about collection methods, material preparation and interpretation of results (page ).
It is officially announced that the process for online submission of papers is close to completion and soon we will be able to start a new phase for Anais Brasileiros de Dermatologia. Everyone involved in the publication process will benefit from the transparency and independency required for the most reliable scientific publications in the world.
As of July 2009, articles will be submitted only electronically. We will set a period for the transition process from older to newer articles, but no sooner the faster process will be perceived and the operational requirement of editing will be improved. Brazilian dermatology certainly deserves it.
