New Year

The Anais Brasileiros de Dermatologia celebrated its 90 years of existence in 2015. Throughout this period, the dedication and excellence of editors, reviewers, technical staff and especially authors of scientific articles enabled the continuous updating of our dermatological community.

Despite the quality, our periodic remained in a secondary position compared with the main international dermatological journals, limited to English-speaking readers. Our scientific production was rarely cited in the references of the world literature.

In the period from 2005 to 2006, the board of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology and the Editorial Board of the Anais Brasileiros de Dermatologia implemented new measures aimed at re-index the periodic in the MEDLINE database. Based on the analysis of scientific production of the 2005-2008 period, our journal received the approval of the National Library of Medicine for indexing on March 10, 2009.

This fact, combined with its online edition in English, gave worldwide exposure to our work. The quality of the journal improved significantly in recent years and today we are the only indexed dermatology journal in Latin America .

The editorial board that assumes the journal in 2016 is honored with the confidence of colleagues who elected us at the meeting of the Advisory Board in September 2015, and thanks to all who preceded us, particularly the former editors (Dr. Izelda Maria Carvalho Costa, Dr. Vitor Manoel Silva dos Reis, Dr. Renan Rangel Bonamigo and Dr. Andrelou Fralete Ayres Vallarelli).

Quality improvement should be pursued continuously and, therefore, we set up goals to be achieved. Among them, we highlight:

  • Increase the journal impact factor, currently in 0.723;

  • Streamlining the publication of scientific articles submitted;

  • Increase in the number of members of the editorial staff, in collaboration with editors from different areas;

  • Prioritization of research and review articles;

  • Stipulation of strict criteria for case reports articles;

  • Reintroduction of the session "What Is Your Diagnosis?";

  • Standardization of language, in the online and print versions, from 2017;

We rely on the collaboration of all to make the Anais Brasileiros de Dermatologia an increasingly outstanding journal in the dermatological research community. You're all welcome to participate!
