SUMMARY
Some methodological aspects related to the measurement of variables on public health ophthalmology researches are discussed. Three investigation fields are presented: the technical, administrative and social ones. It is considered that the social field should be better known before any occular health programmes involving human behavior are implemented and some methodological requirements to measure the social variables are pointed out.
