0,25% betaxolol suspension x 0.25% betaxolol: a double-masked comparison

SUMMARY

The authors studied in a 12-week double-masked triai the intraocular pressure reducing action of the 0.5% betaxolol and the 0.25% suspension betaxolol ophthalmic solutions, in 24 individuais affected with ocular hypertension or primary open-angle glaucoma. The effects upon ocular confort and upon arterial pulse rate were investigated as well.

The results showed that both betaxolol solutions produced a statistically significant and similar reduction of the intraocular pressure, during the 12 weeks follow-up.

ln the 0.5% betaxolol group three individuais showed ocular disconfort symptoms or signs (stinging, 1; burning, 1; superficial punctate keratitis, 1). ln the 0.25% suspension betaxolol group there was no evidence of ocular disconfort symptom or sign. Concerning the arterial pulse rate, there was no significant change of this parameter from the baseline observed in any of the two groups, during the follow-up time.
