Statistical study of normal values of the electroretinogram. Contribution to standardization of Brazilian data

SUMMARY

The electroretinogram (ERG) is an extremely useful diagnostic tool for the ophthalmologist. Its standardization as well as its parameters for the normal values are very important for the correct interpretation of results. In this study, we evaluated the results of 42 normal subjects in order to add some normative data in this subject.

The ERG was performed according to the International Society for Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision (ISCEV) recommendations.

No significant difference was found (p > 0. 05) between the eyes and sexes. No significant correlation (r<0. 5; p > 0. 05) was found between age and ERG. There was a high (r>0. 8) and significant (p<0. 05) correlation between the eyes (right and left) of each subject.
