Prevalence of myopia in bearers congenital toxoplasmic retinochoroiditis scars macular bilateral

SUMMARY

In order to analise the existence of refractional errors in patients with macular bilateral congenital toxoplasmic retinochoroiditis scars and to verify if myopia was more prevalent in this population, we examined 96 patients between 4 and 14 years old (43 bearers of macular retinochoroiditis scars and 53 patients of control group, without other ocular diseases), at Low Vision Section and Outpatient Department of Ophthalmology of Santa Casa de Misericórdia de São Paulo, in 1991 and 1992. We considered the objetive static refraction, in spheric-equivalent. Myopia was the more prevalent refraction error in bearers of retinochoroiditis scars (81.4%). In control group the occurence of myopia was 20.7%.
