Perfuração ocular - Estudo de 473 casos

RESUMO

Os autores estudaram 491 olhos de 473 pacientes com perfuração ocular. Os casos tiveram um acompanhamento médio de 9,6 meses. Lesões córneo-esclerais (53,3% com acuidade visual final entre movimentos de mão e sem percepção luminosa) e em acidentes devido a violência (21% com acuidade visual final entre movimentos de mão e ausência de percepção luminosa) tiveram pior prognóstico. Perfurações por acidentes domésticos (36,4%) e automobilístico (29,2%) consistiram a maioria e foram correlacionados com a faixa etária em que ocorreram. Além disso, a perfuração ocular tem ocorrência predominante em uma população jovem (69,1% abaixo de 30 anos). Ressaltam que medidas preventivas podem ser tomadas para diminuir a incidência de perfurações, como proteção adequada no trabalho, uso do cinto de segurança e supervisão das crianças por pais e responsáveis.

SUMMARY

The authors studied 491 eyes in 473 patients with traumatic ocular perforation. The average follow-up was 9.6 months. Poor prognosis signs were scleral-corneal wounds (53,3% with best corrected vision between hand movements and no light perception) and perforations due to violence (65,6% with best corrected vision between hand movements and no light perception). These was a high incidence of perforation due to household (36,4%) and motor vehicle accidents (29,2%). The majority of ocular perforation was found in a young population (69,1% of the cases under 30 year-old). Safety precautions could be effective order to reduce the perforation incidence, such as routine use of seat belt, adequate protection during work and appropriate supervision of children by parents could help reduce the incidence of ruptured globes.
