BIM Execution Plan: Proposal of guidelines for contractors and designers

Abstract

Building Information Modeling (BIM) implementation is widely discussed in academy and construction industry and requires changes in relationship processes between project contractors and their suppliers to ensure that BIM models are efficient and applicable throughout the life cycle of the building. Contractors and contracted parties report a lack of a document that for all stages of BIM project development defines their scope and responsibilities. In this regard, this article proposes guidelines for a BIM Execution Plan (PEB) development for construction projects contracts aiming to guide relationship between process stakeholders - especially those from Santa Catarina (state in the southern region of Brazil) - within BIM model production process that meet the needs of designers and contractors. From a systematic review of literature and BIM adoption analysis in the companies studied - through questionnaires, interviews and process flow mapping - it was developed the PEB content guidelines and suggested a flow to implement the proposed PEB for a project. Validation was done through interviews with industry experts.
