Incorporation of graphene oxide in coating mortar: a sustainable view

Abstract

Nanotechnology has greatly developed in recent years, promoting the emergence of new materials, such as graphite and its compositions as graphene oxide and graphene. This study performs a physical, chemical and mechanical evaluation of a coating mortar with graphene oxide incorporation at the proportions of 0.04% and 0.1%. The addition caused minimal interference in the physical properties of graphene oxide-containing mortars, when compared to the reference mortar, without compromising the final mortar. However, with regards to the mechanical properties, there was an increase in the compressive strength of modified mortars when compared to the reference mortar and the desirability function determined that with 82.45% of optimisation, the proportion of 0.1% contributed to improve the conditions for compressive strength and flexural tensile strength of modified mortars. The image analyses also corroborated with this fact, as it was possible to see that when there was better dispersion of graphene oxide on the cementitious matrices, the mechanical properties also improved.
