Sarduy on hell. Patatautologies

Abstract

In 1956 Severo Sarduy wrote “On hell”, a review of L´enfer by Michel Carrouges. Carrouges had previously written a work on bachelor machines where he found an odd similarity between Duchamp’s Large Glass and the punitive apparatus described by Kafka. Much later, Deleuze and Guattari would argue that the subject (which is produced as a residuum alongside the desiring machines and confuses himself with the bachelor machine) is nothing but a product of the bachelor machine which generates pure, intensive qualities.

Keywords
bachelor machine; hell; modernity
