Abstract
Analysis of “O recado do morro” (1956), by João Guimarães Rosa, based on the concept of “gesture” in Vilém Flusser and Afro-Brazilian aesthetics. The analysis of the characters in their relationship with nature, mythical beings, spirituality and “messages” leads us to a poetic approach to the gestural codes of this culture. From the phenomenology of gestures, we seek to understand how Guimarães Rosa captured, processed and articulated such cultural manifestation in this specific story. Our conclusion points to the importance of Rosian studies taking into account the emergence of Afro-Brazilian myths and body languages in the body of her work.
