Abstract:
This essay discusses contemporary Brazilian short stories, in order to define if they can be considered noir narratives. We focus on a “noir” Brazilian anthology (2016), which included texts that should not be classified as such. According to our hypothesis, texts written by Dalton Trevisan, Drauzio Varella, Marcelo Rubens Paiva and Valêncio Xavier are crime stories that may shy away from conventional structures and feature a variety of formal resources.
