“This unhealthy attempt to want to read between the lines”: Tamara Kamenszain behind the plot of the text

Abstract

This text proposes a reflection on the last books by Tamara Kamenszain and her gesture of rewriting some poems and essays from other previous books to replace the “I” or the autobiographical episode where it was erased or veiled “in a patina of artifice”. In it, there is speculation about the possible reasons for this rewriting, which unites poem and essay, as an exercise in addressing the question of the self to the “old literary criticism/ that despised private life/ in favor of a severe/ textualist purity”, as he writes in Chicas en tiempos supendidos. The reflection ends up leading to a reading hypothesis: could it be said that this rewriting would be his “terminal lyric”?
