Abstract
This article seeks to discuss the appearance in three novels by César Aira of certain substances, the ingestion of which in some way modifies the path of the novels’ characters, as a figure that establishes the possibility of raising ideas about writing, reading and the imagination. If it was traditionally said that the non-vindicatory novel, which does not propose awareness-raising or some form of learning, was evasive literature, drugs condense that denomination into an absolute meaning and fulfil the role of the escape forward, not to another reality, but in the fold in which the unique reality of the narrative advances.
