Abstract
This paper is based on the contributions of Primo Levi (2004) and Karl Jaspers (2018) to discuss the issue of guilt in Michel Laub’s novel Diário da queda (2011). By approaching traumatic experiences through individual memories, which relate to the events of the Second World War, the narrative portrays, among other aspects, the feeling of guilt present in three members of the narrator's lineage. Although it can be understood almost as a family heritage, by going over his own history, as well as of his ancestors’, the narrator points out the need to face the pain of the past in order to envision a transformed future.
