In this paper we make a concise reading of the urbanization of the Amazon and Mato Grosso in the second half of the eighteenth century. We consider, above all, the implicit relations with the conjuncture of the demarcation of boundaries; the ideological projection of the urban in the political discourse of the Enlightenment, that is reflected in the legislation adopted and the implications of the urbanization process in the reading of the territory.
