This paper is based on the analysis of two photographic collections taken as documentary assemblages and marked by a crisscross of intertwined themes. The research presented here is not intended as a sum of the different images or a segmentation of such images by producer; in fact, it is meant to be a discourse about the city, where every image dialogs with every other picture about the same theme. The dialog between the various images revolves around the topic of sanitation, and it is intended as a contribution to our understanding of the theme from one perspective, among so many other possible ways of looking at the city.
