Primary care information system: potential for health promotion

Objective

To discuss the use of the Primary Care Information System from the perspective of health promotion.

Methods

A quantitative descriptive study conducted in Family Health Units of 21 municipalities of Florianópolis. Health care (public health) Data collection was conducted between October of 2011 and July of 2012, through interviews with health professionals, featuring the use of the Primary Care Information System.

Results

All municipalities surveyed use this information system; nineteen (90.5%) used flow sheets; while Sistemas de informação; Atenção eight municipalities (38.1%) used all of the reports.

Conclusion

The data generated by this system enables the planning of health promotion actions by the teams. There needs to be discussion of the data in the meetings and reorganization of primary care activities.
