Social and clinical factors causing mobility limitations in the elderly

Objective

To investigate the association between physical mobility demands and social and clinical variables of the elderly living in the community.

Methods

This was a cross-sectional study including 52 elderly community residents. The research instrument was constructed based on the theory of Virginia Henderson. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the chi-square or Fisher exact test, with a significance level of 0.05.

Results

The mean age was 72.6 (± 8.6) years, 69.2% were female. There was a prevalence of physical mobility demands, with significant statistical associations with significant statistical associations with social and clinical variables.

Conclusion

Physical mobility was influenced by social and clinical characteristics of the elderly in the community.
