Abstract
Objective
To evaluate the effect of home visits on adherence and empowerment of self-care practices in type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Methods
Cluster randomized clinical trial involving 145 users with type 2 diabetes mellitus, of which 34 in the intervention group and 111 in the control group. The diabetes self-care questionnaire and the Diabetes Empowerment Scale-Short Form were used for comparison between groups at baseline, and intragroup between before and after the study period. The level of significance was set at 0.05.
Results
The intervention group presented a statistically significant increase in the median score regarding adherence to diabetes self-care practices (p=0.005) and the empowerment scale (p<0.001).
