Levels of green soybean seeds and their quality in southern Mato Grosso do Sul State

Soybean seeds have shown serious quality problems, due to high levels of greening seeds in lots produced in Mato Grosso do Sul State. With the aim of investigating the problem, an experiment was conducted in which an evaluation was performed regarding germination potential, root length, oil content and oleic acid acidity percentage, of soybean seed from genotypes BRS 133, BRS 181, BRS 239, BRS 206, Embrapa 48, BRS 240, BRS 241 and CD 202 grown under six environments in the state (Dourados - CPAO, Dourados - Barreirão, Ponta Porã, Maracaju, Sidrolândia and Naviraí). The field experimental design was randomized blocks with three replications, in each site. The genotypes from Ponta Porã and Barreirão, whose seed lots contained lower green seeds percentages, showed the highest germination levels and root length as well. The oil content and acidity were not significantly influenced by green seed levels. It was concluded that, as the level of green seeds increases, a great decrease on germination potential and primary root length was observed.
