Repeatability and phenotypic correlations of characters of the bacuri fruit in the State of Maranhão

The objective this work was to estimate parameters of repeatability and phenotypic correlations in characters of the bacuri fruit (Platonia insignis Mart.). We evaluated six matrices (genotypes) located in six municipalities in the state of Maranhão. Eight fruits were harvested by matrix, measuring the diameter, length, internal cavity, weight and number of seeds per fruit, thickness of the shell, weight of shell plus seed, pulp yield, number of parthenocarpic segments, Brix and total titratable acidity. The data was submitted to an analysis of variance. The genotypes showed significant genetic variability for all characters, at the level of 1% probability by the F test. Only for internal cavity of the fruit, total titratable acidity and Brix was the genetic variance higher than the environmental variance, resulting in repeatability greater than 0.5, while total titratable acidity and Brix had coefficients of repeatability over 0.94. The coefficients of determination, except for the thickness of the shell, shell weight plus seeds and number of seeds per fruit exceeded 80%. For most characters, up to 27 fruits per genotype are required to obtain 95% of determination. The weight of the fruit showed positive associations with the diameter of the fruit, length of the fruit, shell weight plus seed and internal cavity of the fruit.
