Megalotomus parvus West. (Hemiptera: Alydidae): an insect for research and teaching purposes

Megalotomus parvus West. is a neotropical alydid very common and abundant in northern Paraná State (23º 11' S latitude, 51º 11' W longitude). A colony of this bug was maintained in the laboratory for successive generations. Nymphs and adults were reared in plastic boxes (12,0 x 12, 0 x 3,8 cm) lined with filter paper, using mature seeds of pigeon pea, Cajanus cajan plus water (imbibed cotton). The easiness of which M. parvus was reared in the laboratory allow to suggest the use of this bug for research and teaching purposes.
