The complex relationship between the process of trade liberalization and the environment is, nowadays, one of the most important issues found at the international affairs agenda. In order to verify such assumption, this paper has analyzed how the environmental issue has been discussed at the most important organizations of trade negotiation: GATT/WTO System, European Union, NAFTA, Mercosul and at the America's Free Trade Area.
