Professors’ competences in higher education

In the literature, it is possible to detect a distancing between the academy and the skills required in the labor market. This distance can be considered a factor that directly influences the performance of students in the classroom. Practical knowledge must come from the teacher so that skills can be developed in the students. In this sense, the objective of this study is to investigate students 'perceptions about teachers' competencies during the teaching and learning process. The sample corresponded to 162 students from two higher education institutions. For analysis, factorial analysis was used to identify common factors among the variables. The results identified in this research indicate that the competences of professors are divided into six domains: Relationship, Knowledge, Conduct, Interest, Organization and Integrity. These dimensions are considered in the literature as characteristics of a good teacher. As contribution this study dismembers the analysis of the competence of the teacher in the process of teaching learning, and propose specific factors of the C.H.A that can be used in future measurement instruments.
