The objective of this study is to compare two important young universities in Brazil, one classic, the Federal University of ABC (UFABC), and the other technological, the Federal Technological University of Paraná (UTFPR), considering two axes defined by the Network of Technological and Polytechnic Universities Latin America and the Caribbean (RUTyP), innovation and the development and transfer of technology. The study is comparative and exploratory in nature, consisting of information from 3,210 curricula available on the Lattes Platform of researchers from the two higher education institutions, from which 1,573 records related to innovation were extracted (patents, software and letters, brands, and the like) and information of patents registered with the Agency for Technological Innovation (AGINT) and the National Institute of Intellectual Property (INPI). The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics techniques. It was found that, in just over a decade of existence of the two institutions analyzed, there were few transfers of technology to the productive sector, and a departure from the model of technological university by UTFPR. It is concluded that UTFPR and UFABC show a lot of similarity despite the different models.
