    Resumo em Inglês:

ABSTRACT This study investigates the association between SEW and EO, considering the moderating role of the generation that is involved in family businesses, considering that EO might benefit from the entrepreneurial and affective attitudes of the first generations. We collected a survey with a final sample of 107 family firms from the textile and clothing manufacturing industry in Brazil. As data analyses, we employed variance-based structural equation modeling using SmartPLS. Our results provide evidence that SEW is positively associated with EO’s three dimensions: innovativeness, proactiveness, and risk-taking; however, we only found a moderation effect of the generational stage for the relationship between SEW and innovativeness and risk-taking. We show that a high SEW effect on risk-taking is stronger for family firms in later generations than first generations. For higher levels of innovativeness, the level of SEW seems to be relevant only for later-generation family firms. We contribute to the literature on EO antecedents focusing on SEW and the differences in the generational stages. This study also provides insights into how family firms can nurture EO during different generational stage developments, considering family-centric nonfinancial goals.
  • The Social Representation of IT Governance: The Standpoint of IT Professionals Research Article

Joia, Luiz Antonio; Torres, Valéria Cristina Salvador

    Resumo em Inglês:

ABSTRACT This study sets out to identify the social representation of information technology governance (ITG) according to information technology (IT) professionals. Empirical data were collected via online questionnaires answered by IT professionals, being subsequently analyzed by means of the social representation theory (SRT) operationalized via the words evocation technique and the four quadrants of the Vergès’ approach. As a result, it was identified that the central nucleus of the social representation of ITG comprises the following expressions: control, management, strategy, alignment, and planning. A cognitive dissonance between the definition of ITG according to the extant literature and the understanding of ITG according to IT professionals is then revealed. This fact can contribute to the total or partial failure of ITG initiatives, as the benefits promised in the existing literature or derived from the implementation of good practices in this domain are based on an ITG notion that is not fully understood by IT professionals. Therefore, recommendations are presented to align ITG theory with the perception of IT professionals on the subject.
  • Marketing Investments and Company Value in Developing Countries Research Article

Carvalho, Lucas Silvestre de; Vasconcelos, Diogo de Siqueira Camargo; Belli, Márcio Marcelo; Gaio, Luiz Eduardo; Fonseca, Gleison Lopes

    Resumo em Inglês:

ABSTRACT The evolution of the economic context has intensified competition in retail, creating new challenges for companies. Among these challenges are the difficulty of measuring the results of marketing activities, the inconsistency in the sources of information, and the disregard of the temporal characteristics of the returns on these investments. Considering that this context may differ depending on a country’s stage of development, the objective of this study is to analyze the impact of marketing investments on the value of companies. To this end, Tobin’s Q was used as a financial variable and the sample was divided into two groups to discriminate between developed and developing countries. The sample included 1,872 companies from 97 countries. The technique used for analysis was a hierarchical multilevel model of panel data. The results reveal that investment in marketing has a positive relationship with the financial indicator Tobin’s Q, and the impact of such investments in developing countries is greater than it is in developed countries. Thus, from the results of this work, it can be concluded that marketing investments have a beneficial potential for societies, especially those that are in economic environments considered to be in development.
  • Interorganizational Learning Mechanisms in Porto Digital Research Article

Oliveira, Gibson Meira; Silva, Anielson Barbosa da

    Resumo em Inglês:

ABSTRACT Industrial clusters are highly concentrated professional environments, being a potential area for development of dynamic managerial capabilities and interorganizational learning. This study proposes to identify interorganizational learning mechanisms and their integration to the dynamic managerial capabilities in a technology cluster. This is an exploratory research and it uses a qualitative approach through a single-case study. The data analysis was based on content analysis techniques proposed by Bardin. It was identified formal and informal mechanisms that enable the learning between companies and the importance of the role of management core in fostering interorganizational learning, through the various projects that have integrator scope and cooperation between companies. The study revealed that the existence of a department for cluster management is essential to maintain relations between companies and their professionals. This research allowed expanding the knowledge related to the cluster perspective and interorganizational learning, providing the identification of mechanisms that favor the development and mobilization of dynamic managerial capabilities, which collaborate to fill theoretical gaps related to the constructs and reveal their complex nature that is determinant for the governance of a cluster.
  • Adoption of Non-Technological Health Innovations: The Case of Mask Use during the COVID-19 Pandemic in Brazil Research Article

Oliveira, Laís Rodrigues de; Ferreira, Jorge Brantes; Peixoto, Marcus Fabio Rodrigues; Soares, Fernando Januario Lopes

    Resumo em Inglês:

ABSTRACT The use of masks to prevent COVID-19 infections generated much controversy and disagreements among the population, infectious disease specialists, and government representatives. Western countries were not used to using facial masks, and their adoption can be considered a non-technological innovation. This article explores the determinants of the intention to adopt, the actual use, and the continued intention to use a facemask to prevent COVID-19 infections in Brazil. Through structural equation modeling (SEM), relationships between constructs from the theory of planned behavior (TPB) and the construct of trust in the authorities were applied to test the study’s hypotheses. The results suggest that perceived behavior control, subjective norms, and trust in the authorities are significant motivators for the actual use and continued intention to use facial masks in Brazil.
  • A Comprehensive Approach to Job Performance in the Service Sector: A Systematic Literature Review Research Article

Sandall, Hugo; Silva, Luciana Mourão Cerqueira e; Queiroga, Fabiana

    Resumo em Inglês:

ABSTRACT The service sector currently employs the largest portion of workers in the world and stands out due to the nature of labor in this context. This study aimed to produce a systematic multicriteria review on job performance in the service sector. We selected 50 articles in accordance with relevance criteria comprising recentness, citations, and journal’s impact following the Methodi Ordinatio protocol. The articles were analyzed based on the components described in Campbell’s theoretical model. All studies adopted survey as data collection technique - most of them collecting from more than one source - and 11 studies combined survey with other techniques. Only a fifth of the studies included three out of eight of Campbell’s performance dimensions, the larger proportion, though the majority was restricted to only one dimension. The performance determinants often outnumbered the performance measures adopted. The review showed considerable fragmentation as well as neglect of some of the phenomenon dimensions foreseen in the theoretical model. We outline theoretical and methodological guidelines such as longitudinal studies and the need for instruments that cover the phenomenon in its entirety in order to advance the research on the subject.
