Resumos

Tendo em vista estudar os representantes da família Blennidae ocorrentes na costa brasileira, o autor efetua, neste trabalho, a redescrição de Blennius cristatus L., baseado em material que figura nas coleções do Museu Nacional, do Rio de Janeiro. Analisando a bibliografia referente a espécie que lhe foi dado compulsar, manipulou o autor 21 exemplares provenientes do Distrito Federal (Brasil), todos capturados em localidade situada dentro da região em que foi coletado o material tipo de Linneu. Depois de fazer referências a sinonímia da espécie e de ter examinado os seus caracteres osteológicos, promove o autor a sua redescrição, apresentando detalhes novos da morfologia desse peixe cujas descrições, em geral, se tem revelado insuficientes a ponto de acarretarem algumas sinonímias. O trabalho acha-se acompanhado de uma tabela e de 11 desenhos elucidativos.

A redescription of Blennius cristatus L. is made on the basis of 21 specimens collected in the same locality as the Linnaeus' type specimen of the group, in the Distrito Federal, Brazil, and belonging to the collections of the Museu Nacional, Rio de Janeiro. This is the author's first paper of a projected series on the Brazilian representatives of the family Blennidae. The present description is based especially on the skeleton, and is accompanied by a bibliographic analysis and considerations on the synonymy of B.cristatus. New morphological details are presented, bringing a better understanding of the species, and clearing up some nomenclatura! confusions due to insufficient descriptions in previous works on the same group. A table of measurements and 11 text figures complete the paper.

ABSTRACT

A redescription of Blennius cristatus L. is made on the basis of 21 specimens collected in the same locality as the Linnaeus' type specimen of the group, in the Distrito Federal, Brazil, and belonging to the collections of the Museu Nacional, Rio de Janeiro.
