Karyotypical study on fishes of family Sciaenidae (Teleostei, Perciformes) from the region of Cananéia, SP, Brazil: 2. On the karyotype of Menticirrhus americanus (Linnaeus, 1758)

The chromosomes of M. americanus was studied. The diploid number is 48 acrocentric chromosomes and the haploid number is 24. The diploid DNA content of blood cell nucleus was measured. C- and G- banding techniques were tried.
