Open-access Teaching Systems of Two Linear Equations with Two Unknowns Using Hybrid Maps

Abstract

This work addresses the application of the Hybrid Map representation technique as teaching material, for high school teaching of the resolution of systems of linear equations with two unknowns, through the methods of elimination, equalization and substitution. The teaching material exposes the resolution of a problem situation whose resolution involves a system of equations, with the particularity that it presents a hybrid map with some missing mathematical objects, which must be completed by the students. Using a mixed methodology, a descriptive case study was carried out, in which the interpretation from the Ontosemiotic Approach of the hybrid maps completed by the students allowed us to notice the mathematical objects put into play by the students. The results show that the hybrid map helped the students to analyze, discuss and understand the system of practices involved in solving the problem. Although in general there was an improvement in learning, more research should be carried out in this regard.
