Open-access The Development of Women's Talent in Mathematics since the Socioepistemology and the Gender Perspective. A study of biographies

Abstract

In this article, we show the methodologic process and theoretical reflection that permit us to perform a research in gender since the Socioepistemological theory in Mathematics Education. While the gender is a social variable, this inclusion is not trivial. It was the biographic method that allowed us to make the link between our theoretical perspective and the gender. It gave us the guide to analyze the influence of social factors, not only in the construction of knowledge, but also in the constitution and manifestation of talent in mathematics. So, through this perspective, due to the gender associated to the individual, it allows us to consider the function of the individual on his/her social group, the way in which it relates to the developed practices and, therefore, the way in which he/she builds knowledge, and how this will be based on the sociocultural attributions made to their gender.
