Sowing time for some annual ornamentals

SUMMARY
A number of ornamentals, including flowering and foliage plants, were sown monthly throughout the year. Measurements were made of the height, projection of top, size of inflorescence, diameter of flowers and other characteristics of the plants, as well as determinations of seed germination.
Based on data obtained, the plants were classified in three standard types: good, fair, and bad. Favorable months for sowing were considered those which permired the plants to attain the good or fair classification. The results obtained also permitted the classification of the ornamentals studied in three groups:
(a) plants that may be sown the year around;
(b) plants that must be sown from early autumn to late winter;
(c) plants that must be sown from early spring to late summer.
In the months not recommend for sowing the germination does not occur, or if it does, it is low and the seedlings do not develop well, dying prematurely.
