Quince seed viability and storage conditions

Investigations were carried out at Instituto Agronômico of Campinas, during 1974 and 1976 years, on quince (Cydonia oblonga Mill) seed storage conditions to maintain its viability. Storage conditions were laboratory and refrigerator (5-10ºC) environments with the seeds in either plastic or paper bags, for 12 and 24 months. The results show the following conclusions: a) the four treatments were suitable to maintain the viability of the seeds for 12 months; b) the 5-10ºC and plastic bags condition was excellent to maintain seed viability during 24 months; c) even at room temperature in paper bags, the worst condition, the seeds were more than 40% viable.
