Side dressing sulfur fertilization in common bean crop in no-tillage system

Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) growers have not given attention to a correct sulfur fertilization. Thus, they do not use sulfur fertilization or use low levels in sowing or side dressing. This can be a limiting to increase grain yield. The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of levels of side dressing sulfur fertilization on common bean plant nutrition, yield components and grain yield, in no-tillage system. A randomized block design, with five replications was employed. The treatments were five S doses (0, 20, 40, 60, and 80 kg ha-1) applied on the V4 stage (third true-leaf). Side dressing sulfur fertilization increased leaf S content, dry matter yield, number of pods per plant and grain yield of common bean in no-tillage system. The increase of grain yield can be limited by low levels of sulfur fertilization in common bean crops with high-input technology.
