The research was carried out at Selvíria-MS, on a Latossolo Vermelho (Oxisol) with the objective to evaluate cover crops production of fresh and dry mass under three crop sequences and two soil tillage systems. The experimental design was a randomized blocks with four replications, in bands with split split-plots. The bands were made up by five covers (Mucuna aterrima, Pennisetum americanum, Crotalaria juncea, Cajanus cajan and uncultived - fallow) and two systems of tillage (no-tillage and conventional tillage), conventional tillage subdivided with corn(Zea mays L.), soybean (Glycine Max (L.) Merrill) and cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) crops. The evaluations were performed in the agricultural year of 2000/2001, and the area in study was under the effect of those tillage systems since the agricultural year of 1997/1998. Results showed that for cover crops, fresh and dry mass production were lower for Cajanus cajan and higher for Pennisetum americanum and Crotalaria juncea. Cover crops production of mass is different among conventional tillage and no-tillage. Cover crops in cotton plots, on first and second agricultural year, produced higher dry mass. Cover crops produced lower amount of fresh and dry mass under succession with soybean in no-tillage.
