Fertilizer experiments with wheat: V - Methods of nitrogen application

This work presents the results and interpretation of twelve mineral fertilizer trials to study methods of nitrogen application on wheat (Triticum aestivumL.), cv IRN-526-63, carried out in different areas of the State of São Paulo in 1969, 1970, and 1971. The responses observed in these experiments present big effects to nitrogen. The better method of nitrogen application in low rain conditions was to place about 4/5 of this fertilizer in a band 20 cm beneath the plow sole, and apply in the row 1/5 of nitrogen plus phosphorus, potash, and sulphur. In the rainy years the best method of nitrogen application is to place it together with phosphorus, potash, and sulphur in the rows.
