SUMMARY
Results of spacing experiments of papaya (Carica papaya L.) plants conducted at Ribeirão Preto, S.P., are presented. The data showed that the smaller the spacinc, the larger the fruit production, the increase in the yield being about 50% from the largest (3.0 m X 2.5 m) to the smallest (3.0 m x 1.0 m) spacing. However, with the smaller spacings there was an exaggerated growth of the plants, therefore turning the cultural practices more difficult.
