Na Estação Experimental de Ribeirão Prêto, vinha-se notando uma visível correlação entre o vigor vegetativo e a produção de sementes, em variedades de feijão. Para comprovar experimentalmente essa observação, colheram-se dados de um ensaio de variedades. Utilizando o pêso das plantas como uma estimativa do vigor vegetativo e chamando x o pêso das plantas (hastes e fôlhas) e y o pêso das sementes, calculou-se um coeficiente de regressão b = 0,34. Êste valor mostrou-se altamente significativo na análise estatística, indicando que é possível relacionar as duas variáveis através dêsse coeficiente e que a uma variação de 1 kg no pêso das plantas corresponde outra de 0,34 no pêso das sementes.
Taking the weight of the whole plants (x) as representative of the vegetative vigor and the weight of seeds (y), we determined the regression b = 0.34. This coefficient proved to be highly significative in the statistical analysis, showing the existence of correlation between both the variables and that to a variation of 1 kg in the weight of the plants corresponds a variation of 0.34 kg in the seeds.

SUMMARY
Taking the weight of the whole plants (x) as representative of the vegetative vigor and the weight of seeds (y), we determined the regression b = 0.34.
