Studies on fertilizer placement for the onion crop

Methods of applying castor bean meal and mineral fertilizers for the onion plant were studied in three experiments carried out in 1957, 1959, and 1961 at the Theodureto de Camargo Exp. Sta., Campinas. Three methods of fertiliser placement were compared: (a) in the furrows; (b) in a side furrow about 15 cm from that that received the plants; and (c) scattered on the soil. The results from these tests indicated that there was no significant difference between the two levels of castor bean meal that were applied. From the three methods of placing these fertilizers, the application, to the farrows in which the plants were set gave the best results.
