Yield response of lettuce under protect cultivation with no woven films

The experiment was carried out with the aim of evaluate the yield response of two lettuce cultivars (Vera and Lídia), in three different cultivation environment (under white no woven row cover, under natural no woven row cover and in open environments), between winter and spring 2005. The white and natural no woven's materials (both polypropylene) present 17 and 15 g m-2 grammature, respectively. The experimental design was a randomized blocks, with the treatments arranged in split plot, with four replications. The control was composed by a plot of plants without the row cover protection (open environment). It were evaluated the total and commercial yield of lettuce crop, number of leaves, percentage of discarded leaves, the length and dry biomass of the stalk of the lettuce crops. There was significance effect of the factors in an isolated way, for all the features evaluated. Although the types of no woven did not present significant difference between no woven types to productivity, both results with these materials were higher than the control plots, regardless of the cultivars. For the winter/spring season, the use of no woven of white coloring or natural is recommended for lettuce cultivars Vera and Lídia providing an increase of the fresh biomass of the commercial head and better use of the leaves.
