Abstract
Introduction
To evaluate cervical cancer mortality trends in Piauí and 11 its development territories (DT) for the period 2000-2011.
Methods
We conducted time series analysis with deaths data obtained from the National Mortality Database, and population data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. Mortality rates were corrected on the basis of proportional redistribution of the deaths from “cervical cancer, part unspecified” and standardized for age. Time trends were evaluated by Joinpoint method.
Results
There was an increase in cervical cancer mortality trends for the State as the whole (APC=+2.3; CI95%=0.2-4.5). In the period, it was observed upward trends in mortality rates DT 5 (APC=+11.6; CI95%=9.4-37.5), and DT 10 (APC=+11.4; CI95%=0.7-23.2). Other DTs presented stable trends.
Conclusions
In the period 2000-2011, there was upward trend of cervical cancer mortality rates, suggesting difficulty of early diagnosis and treatment of this neoplasm in the State.
