Open-access Instrument for assessing the quality of care for children and adolescents with cancer: validation

Abstract

Introduction:  Comprehensive health care has become an ideal, as it provides a broad view of satisfaction, understood as the offering of quality service. Health assessments can be carried out through the application of instruments, provided they are validated for this purpose.

Method:  Quali-quantitative study that developed and validated the Instrument for Assessing the Quality of Care for Children and Adolescents with Cancer (IQCANCER-IJ). The first version resulted from a literature review after a meeting with experts. In the second stage, each item was assessed using a Likert scale and the Delphi technique until an agreement was reached, measured by the Content Validity Index per Item (IVC-I) and the Content Validity Index (IVC), with a minimum value of 0.78.

Results:  Four domains were determined (95 questions): prior to diagnosis; diagnosis; treatment; after treatment. After an assessment by 12 experts, an IVC-I lower than that recommended in 14 items was observed. The IVC, based on the evaluation criteria used, was 0.75, which implied adjustments. The second version was reassessed by ten judges (IVC-I> 0.78; IVC = 0.98).

Conclusion:  The proposed score is based on the percentage of positive responses by domain and globally.
