Municipal atlases elaborated by teachers: the joint experience of Limeira, Rio Claro and Ipeúna

In the last decade, the curricular recommendations as for history and geography teaching in primary school have encouraged the production of municipal atlases, since they allow including in a one volume maps, texts, photographs and graphics, among others information sources concerning the local space. This paper presents an experience where producing municipal atlases became a collaborative research project between university researchers and Geography, History and Sciences teachers from three towns. Such problems as curricular divisions, cartographic language and teacher training are the focus of this research, which brings forward a significant contribution to constitute a research line of what is now called school cartography.
