Popular extension experience and the academic training in physiotherapy

University extension activities are increasing within the academic sphere. However, different conceptions and ideologies guide these practices. Physiotherapy undergraduate courses do not usually involve extension activities in a constant way, since the aspect of assistance prevails among them. This paper presents an extension physiotherapy project experience based on popular education, performed in a community in João Pessoa. The importance of this experience in physiotherapists training is highlighted, since it improved contacts with the social reality, the local first-level health services and the links to people and community organizations, based on dialogue and social responsibility.
